Blue Mountains

The entrance to the Glow Worm Tunnel.

Last week, before it got ridiculously hot [42 degrees C, really?] a few friends and I went hiking in the Blue Mountains. I would highly recommend going through the Glow Worm Tunnel, where you can see gnat larvae twinkling like little stars inside a 400 meter long tunnel.

A word of caution however, if you want to take the hiking trail around the tunnel: start on the right hand side of the loop and go counterclockwise. If you start on the left side and go clockwise, it will be mostly uphill [very, very steeply uphill]. It's also 9.5 kilometers, so its not a trek for those wanting a nice quick stroll in the woods.

  1. Oh wow! That looks spectacular! Although the concept of a larvae above my head does freak me out a bit. . .

  2. You can't really "see" the larvae. When you get in the tunnel and turn off your flashlight they just look like little twinkling stars in the dark all along the tunnel walls/ceiling. So it's not gross or anything.
